IN RUHIIRA:

The goal was providing the most cost effective overall electrification plan. Network Planner, the software we developed, considers each technology for every location of interest and recommends the most cost-effective configuration to meet energy demands.

Network Planner was able to:

1. Consider the magnitude and location of all residential and institutional loads.
2. Implement a grid extension algorithm to connect all locations for which grid power is economically viable in the most efficient manner. Afterwards, the remaining locations are optimized between mini-grid or off-grid technology solutions.
3. Propose a cost framework on a settlement-by-settlement basis for which the target energy capacities are satisfied in a cost-effective manner.
